On Saturday, May 2nd, members of the Charitable Society of Charleston (CSC) traded their usual routines for a morning of joy, connection, and community impact at Windwood Farm’s Spring Carnival – one of the most anticipated events of the season for the boys the organization serves.
As longtime partners of Windwood Farm, CSC members are no strangers to the meaningful work taking place on its picturesque campus in Awendaw. Windwood Farm is dedicated to “providing help, hope, and healing” to children and families through behavioral, educational, and therapeutic support, creating a safe and nurturing space for young boys navigating challenging circumstances.
But this past Saturday offered something a little different – a day centered around celebration.
A Day of Fun, Connection, and Community
Spring in the Lowcountry brings with it a vibrant calendar of festivals and outdoor events, where families gather to enjoy games, activities, and the simple pleasure of being together. The Spring Carnival at Windwood Farm captured that same spirit – blending laughter, activity, and heartfelt connection into one unforgettable day.
CSC members stepped in to help ensure the day ran smoothly and that every child felt included. From engaging boys in carnival games to cheering on participants and building relationships over lunch, volunteers embraced every opportunity to engage with the Windwood community.
Board member Ashely Savage says “Volunteering at Windwood Farm was an incredibly rewarding experience. The team’s genuine excitement to welcome the CSC back made the day feel even more special. What they’re able to provide there is truly incredible. Having the opportunity to connect with the boys, share in all the activities and games, and witness their joy firsthand made a lasting impression on everyone involved!”
The day was a powerful reminder that giving back doesn’t just change communities – it changes the individuals who show up to serve.
