CSC Foundation

CSC was founded in 1992–1993 through the vision of Ben Thrash and the Board of Directors. The first board was made up of a diverse group of like-minded individuals who shared a deep passion for community service and giving back. Together, they brought this vision to life. The founding board included: Ben Thrash as President, Doug Warner – Vice President, Andy Craig – Treasurer, Amy Neitzel O’Brien – Secretary, Reid Banks, Nancy Carmody, Melissa Turner Ervin, LeeAnne Harris, Scott Schools, and Kit Thrash. CSC was officially incorporated on June 10, 1993, and received its 501(C)3 non-profit designation on August 20th the same year.

Our Legacy of
Giving Back

The Charitable Society of Charleston has created an endowment fund at Coastal Community Foundation to provide for the long-term vision of our organization. Our endowment fund reached a $478,000 milestone in 2026 and continues to support local charities.

How We're Changing Lives

Proceeds from our events allow us to make donations to local organizations in need. As of January 2026, the Charitable Society of Charleston has donated over two million dollars to various charities in the greater Charleston area. Our ongoing volunteer service projects provide an unmatched opportunity to make an impact in the local community.
